Summertime is a great time to work on the business instead of in the business – For all the owners, service delivery folks, help desk leaders, operators, executives, that are working long hard hours to keep business running smooth, clients safe, staff happy, and generally running on high, now is a great time to take a step back and think about what’s next.
Why summer? There is something fresh and rejuvenating about the summer. The warmer weather for most, allows us to relax a bit and think further out than a few weeks ahead. It allows us to reimagine the upcoming year and make plans on how to achieve our goals.
A good place to start is asking yourself and your team “what do you want to change?” and “what has changed in the marketplace?”
I like to look at past performance to assess where to focus on in the future. Not just the negative but also the positive. Did you grow MRR and want to continue the trajectory or was it too slow or worse yet, lost MRR. If the former, what does it take to increase the pace of success and how will you get there? If the latter, time for the 5 W’s (who, what, where, when, and how).
In a highly dynamic industry, we always need to keep an eye on industry changes. We all know we need to keep up with the pace of cyber security to protect our customers and our company, but what other changing needs do our customers have and are there new solutions or partners that can help us get there?
Sometimes we just need to step back from the daily grind long enough to look forward!
